Reliable train safety management system provides benefits on many fronts
There are 1,200 kilometres of track in Jutland. The old train safety management system is due for replacement. This is why Strukton is installing ERTMS Level 2: a reliable, international and modern system. This enables trains to run safer and faster and makes it easier to maintain the tracks.
The customer's challenge

The train safety management system on the Fjernbane is obsolete, like many such systems in Europe. The train safety management system is responsible for approximately 50% of all delays. Furthermore, Banedanmark would like to increase maximum speeds and join the European standard.
How does ERTMS resolve these issues?
The Tahles-Strukton Rail consortium is installing ERTMS Level 2 in the Danish railway network. ERTMS was tested on the first railway sections in 2018 and was subsequently put into use. The full conversion on the Fjernbane must be complete by 2021.
The result
ERMTS on the Fjernbane is to produce the following results:
- 80% fewer signal malfunctions
- Increased train punctuality
- Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
- Lower maintenance costs
- Optimisation of the management organisation
- Improved accessibility for international trains
The entire project on the Fjernbane should be completed by 2021
