Brian de Jong, Energy Supply Technician

Nowadays, digital platforms highlight many opportunities on the labour market. Brian de Jong experienced this first hand in his search for a new job. A Strukton recruiter approached him within two weeks of creating his LinkedIn profile. This is what got the ball rolling and since 2019 he has been proudly working as Energy Supply Technician. A new field of expertise in which he feels entirely at home. A perfect match.

More responsibility and in-depth thinking

‘From my very first contact with Strukton, I was certain: I wanted to work here. I was ready for a new challenge with more responsibility. My wish has more than come true with my job as Energy Supply Technician. As a novice I was immediately thrown in at the deep end with an elite group involved in energy and electrical engineering. Prior to this, I worked as a technician in office buildings, a very different sphere of activity. Fortunately, the team was always ready to help me. They freed up their time as soon as I had a question. In other words, at Strukton you are truly given the opportunity and time to grow in your profession. ‘If something does not work out today, there always is tomorrow.’

I am given the freedom to grow in my profession here.

Proud of every project

‘I work throughout the Netherlands. For some projects even at the other end of the country. For example the project in the Raalte-West district, where three of us built a complete installation. When I started, I was a novice, and over a period of eight weeks I grew tremendously in my job. For example laying certain cables just the right way. Or for another project in the city of Groningen, where we built a replacement train yard for the station there. I would like to become a specialist in this field of expertise. Through my involvement in these kinds of different projects, I am continuously learning and that makes me proud. Strukton is an enormous organisation with the culture of a small company. Short lines of communication and an enjoyable working environment with a focus on you, as person.’

Room for growth

‘At Strukton you are therefore given many opportunities for growth, at a personal as well as professional level. For example, I just completed my substation and transformer station training. And in the near future I will start another course through our Training Centre. Here the focus is on the “Trains, Controls and Safety” (TRS). Ultimately, I would like to advance to work on control cabinets. This complex system demands a great deal of in-depth thinking and I consider that a challenge. I am given more than enough opportunities and options here for me to realise my ambitions.’
